At the sewing workshop I had a great time speaking to the attendants, many of whom were older women, as each of us worked on our own projects. There was also the opportunity for teaching, as with showing others how to do beadwork, but the older women, due to aging-related reasons, made it clear they already have sworn off beadwork, although they once enjoyed it. Little kids would also occasionally come to the sewing workshop to use the communal space for homework and join in with a yarn craft that the volunteers provided them with. It was very fun!
I will miss the people at my community engagement space a lot. As with all the friends I have made in Japan, the time talking to them will encourage me to continue to engage with the Japanese language, and also to make more spaces for Japanese conversation in the US.
